Prediction: New Halo Title Reveal
Written by Drew | Monday, 01 June 2009 10:48

Halo-4-Prediction-Feature

With E3 almost upon us and the promise of a return to the glory days expect announcements of tentpole titles that won't hit shelves till next year or beyond.  Sony's lineup is already at DEFCON 2 status outside constant rumours of new "megaton" software announcements at their press conference.  The Microsoft exclusive well is seemingly dry after effectively spending their allowance the last couple of years, the green machine needs something massive to hold firm on its position of first choice for the hardcore.

A Gears of War 3 announcement is too soon which leaves the one true "Megaton" franchise capable of whipping the faithful into a frenzy, Halo.  No doubt Halo 3: ODST will have a strong presence at this year's show but a spinoff without the Chief doesn't quite cut the mustard.  Nothing but a new fully fledged title featuring one of gaming's greatest icons will get the job done.

It certainly is no secret that a new title is in the works,  MGS4 assistant producer Ryan Payton joined former Gearbox programmer Corrine Yu, her husband Kenneth Scott formerly of id and Bungie's former content manager Frank O'Connor to work on the Halo franchise for Microsoft.  Bungie has indicated a desire to move on from Halo in search of new IP's, so who else would be working on the next iteration?  Microsoft loves money and Master Chief equals space shuttles full of money, a fourth iteration is a no brainer.  Most likely is a release in 2011 so not to steal Gears of War 3's thunder but it is coming.

Barring some mindblowing new IP there is nothing else to capture the public's imagination on such a scale, there is simply no better time than now to drop the Gravity Hammer on its competitors with a teaser for Halo 4 or Halo Origins or the like.  Already almost 2 years have passed since our favourite Spartan was left drifitng in the cosmos, how much longer could they possible leave it?  The time is now Spartan.  Microsoft to the Chief: "Wake up, we need you."

Gotta say, Halo 4 OR a new IP.
I would bet my money on a new IP,
But Halo Chronicles (the Peter Jackson Halo Project) will be shown for a release next year.
Why would they show Halo 4 and take thunder away from ODST which is going to be huge because it says Halo lol

Is this article REALLY needed on the day of Microsoft's E3 conference?

Can't you just wait a few hours instead of writing an article about something that may or may not be confirmed in just a short while?

Hopefully something new. Although they're good, I've never been a massive fan of Halo and would be happy to see it retired and efforts put into something else.

please no no more halo game i think they have milked that cow enough.
put all your money into a new IP or alan wake, but i would love to see a mirrors edge type of game where LA is your playground run jump climb do what ever you want and go where ever you want.
basicly mirrors edge but opend up no restrictions.
now thats worth 50M not some timed exclusive DLC.

Halo is not milked if you compare it to games like Sonic and mario. There is only 3 Halo games ATM, what's the big deal?
