Uncharted 2 No Longer Makes You an Annoying Twit

Those of you that follow various videogame journalists on Twitter will have noticed that over the past week the likes of Brian Crecente from Kotaku and Geoff Keighley from Gametrailers have been playing Uncharted 2. You'll know this because thanks to Uncharted 2's ability to hook into social media's number one darling Twitter, everytime they finish a chapter they Tweet about it. Every. Single. Time.

At first I was happy for them. They represent the 'who's who' of game journalism ce-web-rities so they should rightfully get to blast through Sony's anticipatometer busting platformer, but after a while I was bitter and jaded about the whole thing. It wasn't just me either, Jeff Gerstmann from Giant Bomb and Alex Navarro from Harmonix had started their own versions tweeting rib busters like, "lightly pressed the accelerator in #FORZAMOTORSPORT3" and "completed Level 4-2 in #SUPERMARIOBROS". Highlarious.

But no more! Evan Wells, Co-President of Naughty Dog, posted the following detailing that they had pulled the chapter completion tweets from Uncharted 2 - for now.

So we’ve seen some concern about the frequency of updates for those choosing to use UNCHARTED 2: Among ThievesTwitter support. Some reviewers have had early access to the game and selected the option to update their Twitter accounts as they completed each chapter of the game. This has resulted in some Twitter feeds being updated multiple times an hour. We obviously want to provide the best experience for everybody, so for the time being we’ve disabled Twitter updates on chapter completions. The option will still exist in the menus when the game ships on 10/13, but if activated, it will do nothing. Some time after the game has shipped, we’ll release a patch to reactivate the feature, but with a limit on the frequency of updates.

We’re certainly sorry for any inconvenience, but I guess that’s the risk you run when trying to blaze a new trail in the complicated world of Social Media!

Don't worry guys. You'll figure out how to captilise on it sooner or later.
