Strikeforce Strikes in February 2010

Good news Dynasty Warriors fans, the English language Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of PSP title Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce will go on sale February 2010. That's only the NTSC versions confirmed so far but Europe and Australia release dates can't be too far behind, I hope. The game has been on sale in Japan for over a month now. The console version of Strikeforce is more than an upscaled port with a new character (Meng Huo seen above) and a tangent from the previous games in the series. In contrast with previous DW games there's a focus on online coop play, giant monsters to take down, Fury transformation moves and flying (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon flying, not Superman flying). The PS3 version will feature playable characters from Ninja Gaiden 2 (cool!) while the Xbox version will have guest stars from Warriors Orochi (bit lame).

If you've been unimpressed by Dynasty Warriors button masher style, repetitive gameplay in the past Strikeforce will surprise you. It's a very different game from the old formula, read our review of the PSP version right here for more information. My immediate concerns for the console port are the scaling of the difficulty so the single player game isn't such a nightmare experience and if the levels will be the large sprawling battlefields that make Dynasty Warriors games so popular or the annoying sectioned areas of the PSP game. We'll find out in February.
