With the Christmas rush almost upon us and 2010 set to annihilate our wallets, I thought it might be helpful to make a list of the best games to look out for on those soon to be jam packed shelves. Just so you know, there are going to be a lot!
Uncharted 2
What needs to be said about this game that hasn’t been said already? I can’t wait! I was a HUGE fan of the first game and the second looks to set a new level for graphics on consoles. This game looks to carry on the brilliant story telling from the first game and refine the combat. Oh, did I mention that this game has a deep online co-op and competitive multiplayer aspect as well? I don’t think I did, well now you know. If you own a PS3 you MUST own this game, it's ok ill wait here why you go pre-order it.

Assassin's Creed 2
Assassin's Creed is still one of my favourite games of this generation, one of the few games I was able to replay. Some might say it was repetitive, but I don’t mind something being repetitive as long as what I'm doing is fun. Assassin's Creed 2 looks to take that on board with a wide variety of missions alongside a graphical upgrade and a brand new city in which to assassinate people. Not much more has been shown about this title but everything they have shown has me excited. Who doesn’t want two hidden blades!
Splinter Cell: Conviction
Splinter Cell is one of the few games that managed to stand out at E3 this year, with one of the most impressive live demos I have watched and with a brilliant cinematic trailer it's no over-statement to say it made a splash. With new mechanics designed to keep you in the game world while telling you the story, this looks to be one of the best games to be released next year. This is a game that seems centred around immersion and not taking you out of the game world. If this is the case we should all be extremely excited.

God of War III
Ah the Holy Grail for PS3 fanboys, after the first gameplay trailer was released for this game the hype became immense. I can see why, as God of War 1 & 2 are some of the best looking and playing games on the PS2. God of War III has already made a massive impact on me after what has been shown. Who in their right mind places whole levels on the back of a titan for it to then dynamically change while you’re playing? Sony Santa Monica, that’s who. With the God of War Collection not coming to Australia, an import may be necessary. What, you didn’t hear? A God of War III Demo is going to be included.
Left 4 Dead 2
I'll admit it, I never played Left 4 Dead. Yes I'm ashamed of it, but at the time I was about to buy the game valve announced Left 4 Dead 2. A little bit upsetting, but I decided to just wait for the sequel to get my co-op zombie killing fix. BUT the sequel just got banned in Australia. I am so angry at the ESRB for doing this and literally think our government is retarded for not introducing an 18+ rating for videogames. Its 2009 people! Without letting this turn into too much of a rant, we still have a hope in Australia considering that EA will be resubmitting the game to the ESRB, keep your fingers crossed.
Update: Apparently the game has been rated. Stripped out like Basic Instinct on a 3pm screening, but rated never the less.

Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time
I can’t say much about Ratchet and Clank, I have only been a fan since the first Playstation 3 release. Which, might I add, is a fantastic game that everyone needs to go out and play along with Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty. These games are so dependable with their quality, there hasn’t been a bad Ratchet game made yet. A Crack in Time looks to carry that tradition on with a slightly tweaked graphical style and even more crazy weapons. All previews up until this point have been positive
Mod Nation Racers
A game that is carrying a lot of expectation from me after E3 is Mod Nation Racers. It looks like the perfect blend of Little Big Planet and Mario Kart. Combine the fun kart racer at the heart of Mario Kart with the creation and style of Little Big Planet and you have a game I'm excited about. I can see myself spending days creating tracks trying to make something I would be proud of, lets hope loops can be done. Not to mention that it looks like a very accessible game for the non-gaming girlfriends out there.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
While the whole world is going crazy over Modern Warfare 2 - I'm sitting back being critical. That doesn’t meant I'm not excited, I just haven’t seen enough of it to make me go “OMG that was F@%#ing awesome!” Not yet anyways. I'm still going to buy the game and I'm sure I'm going to love it. That’s how good I believe Call of Duty 4 was. Will this game break sales records? Well considering the amount of hype in this title so far, even though only a few gameplay trailers have been released I would have to say Yes.

Skate 3
Skate 2, a game largely ignored at this point in time because it was released in January. Well, I was playing the game for a long time; as it improved on the original in every aspect besides one. They added some gimmicks to the game that made it slightly lame. I’m hoping Skate 3 will remove some of this and refine the gameplay further. I really love this series and would hate for it to turn into Tony Hawk. It seems they are focusing on the online community for this sequel, but all I really want is a nice city to skate around.

Next Generation AFL
Sitting back at No.10 is the announced AFL game for PS3 and Xbox 360. The only reason this game is at No.10 is because nothing is known about the game so far. I loved the PS2 games to death even though they looked like crap and played worse. Yet for some reason I still had a lot of fun with them and a next generation one basically has to be better. Even if its not I still want to play it, yes I'm an AFL fanboy. Almost to the point that I want to buy a PSP and AFL Challenge, but I won’t. I'll just keep waiting for this game, is it 2010 yet?
I will warn you that my honourable mentions include more games than are in the actual article; this is going to be a really screwed up or an awesome 6 months to come depending on how you look at it. Screwed up for me since I wont have time to play them all and get addicted to Skate 3, Uncharted 2, Modern Warfare 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 online. Ahh…. Well here are the honourable mentions: Forza 3, Tekken 6, MAG, Heavy Rain, Grand Turismo 5, Alan Wake, Borderlands, Dante’s Inferno, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Bioshock 2, Lost Planet 2, Dark Void and of course the game that nearly made the list, if it wasn't for my AFL fanboyism, Brutal Legend! Seriously the demo is superb, go download it now
Did anyone else just feel their wallet get lighter and their back catalogue grow?
